Pentekonter 44M Mine Warfare / 44T Training Ship

The Pentekonter 44A was designed as a cheap low-end patrol asset. Unfortunately it quickly proved to be a little too low-end and NS moved to the Rome 46A for the patrol role instead. The Pentekonter instead became dedicated minesweepers and have proven highly useful in the role. They still continue to be used in the light patrol role too.

Some ships are also used by the Departmental Fleet for trials, calibration and general duties. Some new ships are being built for the training role to replace the Starsystem 91B.

Although the Pentekonter failed first time around as a patrol asset a development of the ship, the Protector 57A, is the new standard light patrol ship for UNP policing and governance. The Pentekonter has proven highly successful in export with dozens now serving with NS allies and customers.

All ships will be upgraded in the Pentekonter ILU 2125, changes include Proton RM-01 e-Core engines, TPM-VLS 8-cell launchers, removing SPECNES and an increase in cruise speed to 400c.

Alpha Centauri 93A Training Ship

These are exported Helwin class ships of Bolitic construction and bought by the DDS from their former owners via a third party. They are used for trials, "aggressor" training, occasional patrols and other (unspecified) purposes. Sufficient parts to build a third ship have recently been sourced though the parts ended up being used to keep the others in service.

They are due to be withdrawn by early 2127.

Starsystem 91B Training Ship

The Starsystem was the first series production warship for the DDS fleet and the direct ancestor of the Isometric (indeed one battle damaged Starsystem was rebuilt as the Isometric (Prototype) to help develop the Type 41 family. As they became obsolete they were withdrawn from front-line service but found a new role as training ships. With their second generation structures reaching end of life NS decided to rebuilt them as the Proxima Centauri 42A light destroyer. This conversion programme was completed in 2119.
